Synthesia review for training videos: real pricing and limits

What the free plan, Starter and Pro actually include, how credits work, and who should skip it.

How this was researched: features and prices come from each vendor's official pages (linked below) as of the date shown. We have not run hands-on benchmarks for this article. Where we haven't tested something, we say so. Content is AI-assisted and researched from official sources; no hands-on testing. Synthesia turns a script into a video with an AI avatar presenter. It's aimed at business training and explainer videos. Here's what you get at each price, straight from its pricing page.

Plans

PlanPriceWhat's included
Basic$010 min of video or dubbing per month, 500 credits, 125+ avatars; videos carry a watermark
Starter$29/mo monthly ($18/mo billed yearly on the comparison table)+1,250 credits/mo (about 12 extra minutes), 180+ avatars, 3 guests, no watermark
Pro$89/mo monthly ($64/mo billed yearly)+6,000 credits/mo (about 60 extra minutes), 240+ avatars, 5 personal avatars, 5 guests
EnterpriseCustomSSO, SCORM export, dedicated CSM

How credits work

Synthesia says a typical finished minute uses about 100 credits, and more if the avatar is on screen the whole time. Dubbing costs 40 credits a minute without lip-sync and 80 with. Unused monthly credits don't roll over. You can't pay per video; it's subscription only.

Good fit / poor fit

Verdict: The free Basic plan is a genuine way to test quality, but the watermark rules it out for published work. Starter makes sense for light use, and Pro for teams producing regularly.
